Water Well

3:15 pm

I noticed that there was a water well on this street, something that I had not known of before. The sound coming from the well was continuous and this gave me an opportunity to play around with the microphone positioning. I discovered that the microphone position, including the characteristics of a stereo microphone, help in making this specific sound a bit more interesting.

Birds and Ducks at the Lakefront

2:45 pm

I ended up right in front of Lake Michigan and decided to stand in this same spot for a while in order to have the ducks and birds surround me. It didn't take long for them to surround me and I heard the animals that were right next to me as well as the flocks of birds that were flying together overhead.

Water Drops

2:20 pm

Walking by this house I noticed water falling down from the gutter and noticed that the water made an interesting sound as it fell in the snow. I captured the sound that the water made against the snow along with the sound of a couple of dogs barking in the distance. Traffic sounds could not be avoided and also made it into the recording.

Flying Kites

1:36 pm

While walking by this school,I heard the sound of a school bus coming into the parking lot. As this sound faded away, I suddenly heard the sound of footsteps that I discovered to belong to students. These students then came towards me as they walked by to test kites that they had made, I assume, earlier in class that day. I could hear the excitement as they walked by.

Birds Chirping in Traffic

3/3/2009, 1:17 pm

As I began my investigative walk, I found that as I focused on my surroundings, I heard sounds that I would have otherwise taken for granted. As this particular stop, I heard the merging of the chirping of birds along with the sound of traffic coming and going on Kinnickinnic Avenue. It was quite surprising to hear the sounds of the birds be quite competitive with the sound of the cars going by.

Drift 1 Strategy and Start Point

For Drift 1, I plan on starting my walk at the intersection of Kinnickinnic and Oklahoma Ave in Bayview. My drift strategy will include drawing a rectangular shape on a map of Bayview and walking on every street within the shape.
